Seven men were the first inmates in the Yuma Territorial Prison, the run-up to the Arizona Depart. of Corrections. Today the Arizona Depart. of Corrections is home to more than 31,000 inmates. 90% of the inmates in the Arizona Depart. of Corrections are male. Approximately 6,000 correctional officers and full time staff are employed with the Arizona Depart. of Corrections.
The Arizona Depart. of Corrections now comprises ten different locations in the State of Arizona. These locations include Tucson, Phoenix, Florence, Lewis, Eyman, Safford, Douglas, Perryville and Yuma, where the original Arizona Depart. of Corrections was first established.
